my 87 wont start....I got it to run but it I have to feather the gas to keep it going, then after 20 seconds or so it lays down and dies...then wont start for 1/2 hour any ideas on what to check?

New spark plugs first, fresh gas ? It is hard to answer when we are not looking at the car .Is the battery charged and are the cables clean. ? Clean air and fuel filters ?Did you check the fuel pressure .

Quite possibly leaky injectors. Can you keep it moving if you keep giving it some gas, like driving around?

we moved it forwards and backwards a little to check the drivetrain. I should have let it run longer but it didnt have an upper radiator hose, so we turned it off to put it on, before I turned it off, it idled real smooth and rev'ed really good, but ever since we turned it off we could not get it started. I put 2 gallons of 93 in the tank, but nothing..I even put at fluid in, but that didnt seem to help, killed the starter yesterday, so we tried to push start it but it wouldnt take off.
When I took out the spark plugs to check, they were wet, but not alot.
Things got me going nuts that it would run and then not, but this is the first rotory that we have, so I think that there is something simple to it, but dont know.
It has great fuel pressure, cable are clean, tried 2 sets of plugs, checked spark everythings okay :(
Stumped

not really sure what to tell you except that it could be one of the electrical gremlins the s4's have and prepare for a headache. also there is no reason to run 93 octane unless its a turbo. check around the radiator hose to make sure you didn't knock off a sensor plug or vacuum line. chances are you knocked a vacuum line off by the intake. if its na, there should be 2 large ones coming off the intake elbow.

checked the vac lines, their okay. The 93 octane was just to make sure the gas in the tank was okay from sitting. have no idea...think I am dropping in my 450hp 347 just for giggles

have you put fresh plugs in it?

newbie 05-13-03 07:36 PM

not new plugs, but a set out of a running engine...going to try to push start it tomarrow. Would like it to run, but cant spend any cash on it right now, so I am trying to see if its something simple like getting it started and letting it run for a while.
