You can take the engine and transmission out while they are still attached to each other. Remove the radiator, tip the tail end of the transmission way down (this will bring the front of the engine up and off the engine mounts) then pull the whole thing forward and up to get it out of the car. Having the radiator out will give you the extra room to bring the tranny forward to the engine bay.

Pop the back end of the cars jack stand out and leave the front ones up as high as possible its really easy this way!

did you release the clutch?the 3rd gen has a PULL type clutch that must be released before the engine/trans can be seperated. if you look up in through the inspection hole on the bottom of the bell housing there is a metal collar on the pressure plate you need to push it into the plate(toward the engine) with 2 screwdrivers or prybars.if the collar doesn't move you can also take the bolts ouy of the pressure plate/flywheel 1 at a time.

there is a pic of it somewhere on here but I don't know where

I'm having trouble separating the engine from the transmission. I removed the 6 pressure plate bolts and pressed the clutch to retract the pressure plate. When I raise the engine the transmission raises with it. I can see the flywheel at the back of the engine. I don't know what I am doing wrong. Do I just need to pull harder?

do what he said. If it is released. Gently!- put a large screwdriver or crowbar between the bellhousing and engine to lightly twist them apart. One they seprarate about half an inch life should get easier.
