Need Help With A 12a Engine
 

hey,

im new to rotary engines and as luck would have it just got a 12a engine that has been bridged and polished just need some ?'s answered 1st what body style does this engine go into and 2nd what types of mods other than I/H/E provide the most hp on this motor i already have a turbo 240sx and i want to make this a HP junkie

Well, the most common car to have a 12A is a a first gen RX-7 (non-SE versions). This means an RX-7 from 1979-1985 with the S, GS, LS, and GSL trim levels.

As for HP, once you get past Intake, Exhaust and Headers, your best bet is probably a turbo or SC upgrade.

if its a true bridge port grab a big 51mm weber and a shot of nos... lots of n/a draggers use that type of setup. get your car tuned good and nos wont hurt it too bad. you can make some very good numbers too with a BP

Hi I also have a 12a so I have done the research. the two best websites that I have found are Racingbeat.com, Mazdatrix.com. They both have a lot of good parts for the 12a.


Some mods I'd recomend are full intercooled turbo (If you got a carb 12a get a holly carb upgrade and get stiffer springs on it to support the turbo; you could super charge it if you want), mod the ignition with some msd blasters and two 6AL boxes (for the rev control which is inportant for turbo rotaries), some nology plug wires, a bigger three row rad., a GLS-SE oil pump,and anything else you want.

provided the motor is built right ...

if all you want to do is race, get an '81-'83 hardtop. put a 48 IDA on the motor - complete EFI is even better. look to ISC Racing for a header and then custom build the rest of the exhaust. lighter flywheel and clutch setup, especially if you plan to do something other than drag racing - your call though.

upgrading to the SE oil pump is a good idea and i agree with k1ng on that (if it hasn't already been done) and since the engine is not mounted in a car, you have the perfect opportunity.

i'd say get it running and get used to it before even thinking about using juice or forced induction. no offense meant, but you'll probably only blow it up to all hell and then start saying how rotaries are unreliable (and decrease the population of usable 12A parts that guys like me are always looking for).
