need electrical help to start my rx7
 

Ok my rx7 won't turn at all. When I go to start it clicks and everything electrical shuts off. To me sounds like its shorting. When I first put it together it wouldn't turn. Got the starter rebuilt and it was ok again. Couple days later pass and this is when my problem started. It just clicks and everything electrical related shuts (the whole car). I already checked for voltage at the top connector of the starter and I see voltage about 10v when in start. I check that same wire to see if it was shorting to ground and its not so that's good. I take the starter out and it works fine when I test with the battery directly. I have checked continuity between the s terminal on the solenoid and the m terminal which is the one on the right and there's is which is good. When I energize the coil there is also continuity between the m terminal and b terminal. Is there suppose to be continuity between those 2?

You might not have enough amperage running to the starter solenoid. Does your car have the Starter Cut Relay? There's the Interlock Switch as well so between the Ignition Switch and the solenoid you have different components which can reduce the amperage to drive the starter. While the amperage itself can be low the voltage can check out okay so it gives you a false sense of security that things are okay when in actuality it is not. With the car not in gear you can crawl down under the car and with a screwdriver you can bridge the positive battery cable connected to the starter to the starter solenoid prong and see if the starter turns over as it should. If it does then you know your problem is getting the proper enough of amperage to the starter solenoid.

Ok I'll try that first thing tomorrow. Another thing I did was I disconnected the wire that goes to the starter from the battery and turned the key and I could here the plunger kick out.

80 amp main fuse in there?

Yea its in there.. I tried bridge it with a screwdriver and the same thing happened. Cmon people I need help to start driving the beast

If you supplied the starter solenoid w/voltage from the battery and the best you get is a click then the amperage is not enough (could be due to a weak battery or poor ground connection), or the starter and or starter solenoid is not up to snuff, or you have the starter wired up incorrectly. It is one of these three things.

Checking it tonight

The culprit was the positive battery post connector. When I hook it up with the little bolts on the bottom of the connector it would finally turn no problem. Thnx satch what u said just made me think and checked everything. Gonna buy a new connector tomorrow and all is good again
