Need 24VDC
 

Are there any buses/relay boxes or even on the alternator of an FD where I could find 24 volts dc?

u might want to check out some golf carts. i think the electric ones r 24v? what u need 24v for?

well I picked up a spal fan for free, the only thing is its 24VDC and I wanted to try and mount it to my smic.

No there isn't. You could buy a step-up transformer but for a high amp application, it would be big and heavy. It just wouldn't make any sense.

someone I know suggested a voltage amplifier, would that be the same thing as a step-up transformer? I think I'm going to head over to radio shack this afternoon, I'll post up what I find out.

you may be able to get 24 volts if by changing the field coils in the alternator if that type was ever offered as 24 volts or some gm alternators are 24 volts go to a shop that rebuilds alternators

Transformers only work on AC. You can't put DC through a transformer unless you first convert it to AC, which leads me to....

In order to produce 24V DC from 12V DC, you need a DC to DC converter. 12 to 24V DC-DC converters with enough juice to run your fan (about 40A continuous and 80A surge) run about $300. So it's cheaper and easier to just get another fan.
