motor install
I was thinking of using a 13b on my sandrail. What electronics would I need to controll the engine?
|
ignition definitely, and if you're going to use EFI, then obviously fuel, as well.
is that what you're asking? or are you asking for specific brands? |
just wondering what do I need to get the motor running with EFI
|
well it all comes down to computer (ECU), sensors and wiring. the question that i'm still unclear about is what you're planning ... what are your power goals. are you talking about stock parts or aftermarket systems? are you sure you even want EFI ... because you could get an ignition system and just run a carbie ...
just need more specific info or questions, that's all. :) |
I was thinking about using a rotory instead of an aircooled VW engine. I think stock power is enough. I am unsure what setup, carb or EFI, is better or easier to setup/maintain. I just need to know what will it take to get a rotary to work outside of a 7.
|
much better ...
for simplicity's sake, i'd say go with a carb setup. the only thing you'll need to worry about is getting the ignitions systems (as you know, there are 2 of them) to work correctly. besides that ... what layout is your sandrail? is it the standard rear engine type of thing? you'll have to get an adapter to fit a VW/Porsche tranny. i know RB sold them at one point, but i don' know if they still do. |
It's rear engine with a radiator in the front. How do I convert from EFI to carb, also what ingnition do you recomend.
|
conversion is simple, just choose whichever carb you want to use and then get the distributor from an '81-'85 motor. you may want to get some hot coils (like MSD) or you also may want to use the coils from a Gen II car.
as far as wiring up the ignition is concerned, i must admit that i am at a loss. i've never had to come even close to wiring one from scratch. so, i'll be pretty useless to you with that info. hopefully someone else reads this, and will know what to tell you. you may want to post a question on ignition wiring in the Gen I or Other Rotary forums ... |
