Modifying oil passage in front cover.

Was looking at the two 90 degree bends in the front cover and thinking if those bends were not so sharp it might flow better. I know people have modified them before, but I am curious how and what was done, and how did it affect oil pressure?

I've bypassed the front cover exit totally on a few engines. If you look at the front plate you can see the oil galley exit by the AC mounting studs. Its got a plug in it but that can be drilled out and tapped. FYI, use a straight thread tap, not a pipe thread. The pipe thread can split the housing if you get crazy tightening it.

You still need to let oil get to the front pressure regulator though. You won't pick up pressure from changing anything like this you may pick up a half a HP at 9000 rpm though.

The stock oil system doesn't really have any bad issues. A lot of people over think things and create problems for themselves(been there...)

So how would you use the front pressure regulator if you tap into the oil gally on the front iron plate?

the front pressure regulator still dumps oil when the pressure gets too high. it's just that oil going to the oil cooler has a more direct path out the front plate. this mod is done on my repu motor and it eliminates two 90* and one 45* bends for the oil to get to the cooler. It doesn't have to 90* go up, forward, to the left, then 45* towards the oil cooler.

You do have to put a 90* bend fitting on the front oil cooler line, where it attaches to the front plate. To angle the braided line towards the oil cooler.

I hear that adding a 90* bend is like adding 10 feet of oil line, flow and pressure drop wise.....

I've done this to my motor in my fc. Worked well. I also have other mods to the oiling system. I constantly overflow my regulator. Not just on cold starts either haha.

Who has a part number for the specific adapter? (the boss o-ring fitting to -AN) I know I have done this before but I lost the part number and dont remember the specific sizes. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Anyone have pictures of this?

Wow I learned alot from your thread there. Thank you for sharing that.
I really like what you have done with your oiling system. Allthough the simple factory system is efficiant in most aplications, I do see some flaws in the lubricating system for high HP/RPM applications.
Again, thanks for the link to your thread!!!:icon_tup:
