mod an air/air ic to a air/liquid ic?
 

i have a conquest intercooler. too small for the turbo i have now. and i want to use a air/lquid ic for a variety of reasons. this fact is not going to change

here is the idea. seeing the charge is moving through the area of the intercooler core, which the ambient cooling air would have gone, and the liquid is moved through the former charge air path. basically, things are switched.

could i just block of the existing in and out for the charge, then use some AN fitting on each side to connect the liquid in and out, then TIG two tanks onto the intercooler for the new charge air path?

that is basically what they do when they make them...

Yes you can. You will also need a pump to circulate the water, a heat exchanger to remove the heat from the water, and a reservoir for the water.

hahaha. I am running a water/air intercooler on my car. For certain applications water/air has a far better efficiency than air/air (I have heard as much as 14%) but it will be a little longer until the car is running so i have no hardcore proof of this yet.

i had planned on modding my stock TII intercooler for this exact purpose. but the weld shop said it would look bad because the metal was really dirty and pitted. it could be done, just the welds would look bad. so i decided to step up. i'm going to use a new bar/plate core for the water/air intercooler. also using .063 6061 aluminum for the end tanks. antoher bar/plate core will be used as the front heat exchanger.

hmm...i never even though about using the stocker intercooler for that....not sure what the stocker intercooler can really take though boost pressure wise.
