mesh for the front grill

Hi all i have a 99 front bumper put in recently and i would like to put a wire mesh like the one on the BMW M3. Please help me figure out if thats the right choice and where to get it from. Thanks

I think someone got some mesh from Home Depot. They had to use some epoxy to put it in place. I think the bottom can be secured using the same bolts that secures the front lip. However, I am not sure where you can bolt the top of the mesh. I think it may look pretty cool if the mesh is painted the same as the car. Or semi gloss black like the M3. I wouldn't get a mesh that has openings that are too small as it would restrict air flow.

Step 1: Once u get mesh (which is available at most body kit shops) remove the bumper (or wht ever ur applying the mesh to) so u can put it on a bench and work easily on it. When u have done that, you can figure out how to go on applying the mesh. It is very pliable (especialy the small-gauge stuff), but there are limits. Where posible i would recomend using a seperate pice for each aperture you are covering, otherwise it may be hard to make the mesh sit flush with the edges of the bar.

Step 2:The shapes of the mesh should be cut out as you go, rather than in advance, otherwise you might cut the mesh too small and waste a lot. Once the shape has been laid down you just bend the edges over reasnobly neatly (no-one will see this side so it doesent matter too much) If possible it helps to screw at least one part of the mesh in with self tapper screw or two. You can use a hot glue gunto hold the mesh in place before aplying Sikaflex which takes 24 hours to dry properly If you can leave the bumper off the car for a day yust use wheights to hold the mesh in place while the Sikaflex dries (you can buySikaflex in caulking-gun tubes from most hardware stores)

Step 3: After the 24 hours ur finish give ur self a pat on the back and admire ur handywork...

ps only small gobs of Sikafelx are needed every 15cm or so along the edge. allso make sure all ur mesh is angled the same way otherwise it just looks stoooopid...
