Mazda rx7 motors
 

I was wanting to know about the motors in a 1988 Maxdsa RX7, what is the difference between a rotary engine in the RX7 and a normal piston engine???

Does the RX7 1988 perform well, seeing it is in good condition???

Its all opinion. There are lots of factors that play into the better or worse debate.

It is all about prefrence really. The Rotary is better in some ways but is lacking in others.

but wat about overall, wat do u think

my opinion is that rotarys are better because they can produce outstanding HP with less friction then pistons which you can rev higher because of that. also its small/compact (less liters then other cars). i think its fascinating how per rotor there is 3 combustion chambers per each also comparing 1 rotar=3 cyclinders for a piston engine. even though i might be young (still 16) i still researched on rotarys because of a nice lil physics n trig project i had to do in high school n i fell in love with them.. i guess you can say i like to be differnt then others with cars and i like how people dont no what the hell im talking about with my car. :D but it all varies on what people think just research them more at

I like the rotary because of the design. Other's don't. Its all about preference.

you can beat the shit out of them more due to less moving parts, and they'res nothing like the wind up of a rotary, it sounds like.....heaven

Just think about this:

400hp out of a 1.3L
400hp out of a 5.7L V8

Enough said. They make outstanding power for being quite small, but they lack in torque.

It's all a matter of preference really. They are VERY unique motors to be quite honest, the Renesis won awards for 2004 Engine of the Year, the 1988 was Import Car of the Year.

one one thing can make you go faster..did I repeat myself?..that's DRuGS!!!and you won't find any around this lad!!I had the option of crack or cars ..i chose cars..true story...the rotary is an amazing engine..it will either treat you right or kick you in the ass!!it a machanic's dream engine..if you like to learn about real cars you've found the right place!!the potential is alwaysthere for horsepower ..different strokes for different folks ..this car keeps me busy so I don't self-destruct..it's my best friend..rotary engines rock and piston engines now to be seem to be...PISSED-In

are rotary engines fuel efficient at all compared to the piston?

thats hard to say, only the rx line were rotary so there isnt much to compare with, but against say a supera's engine or what not its about the same, you can fine tune a rotary with a stand alone, no emmissions free intake and exaust and get like 27+ city but remember its a sports car its not made for fuel economy honda civics on the other hand...

i think most of belong here cause we love them..like any other things there is a down side to everything..and for me is not owning one rx from each gen..

ur lookin at the rught site on info about these cars..and give it a week of lookin in some of the messages that are post i think u will understand alot more about these great engines and the downside of them from diff point of veiw

hey don't have a real practical use in the real world. They require strick maintence, and are tempermental at best. But I still love em. That's why I bought my old 89 back. I missed it, love the feel, the way they drive, etc. It's really all based on opinion. I woldn't put one of these motors in a work truck and expect it to perform better, but for like weekend things, yeah, great deal. Love just having it around as a toy.

I can almopst guaruntee you wont find a person in the community who will say pistons are better.. hell. thats why we're here. IMHO rotaries, in an all around spectrum, are better in ever way but when it comes to gas. But hell, its a sports car, you dont buy it for efficiency.

great lookin carm wouldnt say its worth over 10 grand though.

Personally, if you want to learn, find a barely running one for like $1000. Theres nothing left to do on that one, so all you'll do is drive it. If you get a beater you can build up the whole thing. You'll be amazed by how much you can learn

Im 17 now. I was 16 whe I got my first 88 n/a.

I found this site, and jsut put my head right into it. These cars are my life now.
if youve got the funds, you could buy a beater honda or something for a few hundred bucks while youre learning and tinkering and tuning the 7 to be your DD!!

if you were looking at a 10g RX-7 it looks to me lke youve got plenty of momey to go through with that

It's not a 2 cyclinder......grrrrrr........it's 2 rotor.
