lubricate speedometer head
My speedometer on my 73 RX-2 sounds like a hamster running in a circular cage. I've removed the speedo cable and completely lubed that with graphite oil but the noise persists. I'm thinking it's the head itself making the racket.
any ideas on what part of it I need to lube? I'm thinking it's sealed or something to prevent tampering with the odometer . . . |
could you just buy a aftermark one?
|
I'd like to keep the stock gauges . . .

you should be able to detach the speedometer at both ends. have you pulled the gauge cluster to look at the attachment?
|
yeah I've pulled the cable out of the head, but what part of the head is actually squeaking and needs lube?
|
so you think it is actually the guage that is squeaking? if thats the case i would just get some whate lithium grease or whatever they use in small devices and lube the little gears. i'd also fill one end of the speedometer cable with grease or oil and let it drain down to the other end to make sure the full length of the cable is lubricated. be careful when messing around in the instrument cluster though. you also might want to try talking with some other rx2/rx3 guys.

I'll try some white grease the next time I take the dash apart - not looking forward to that - it's a royal pain in the ass getting the speedo cable screwed back onto the head when you are putting it all together . . . thanks |
