low oil pressure

hey guys

my car is showing a low oil pressure on the meter. When it start it shows really high but when it heat up, at idle, it shows around 10-15, sometimes it's almost 0. When i'm on the gas it climb up a bit but normally not more than 30-40. the car still runs fine and the only problem with the car is some oil leak from turbo.

So, is it normal? i wouldn't think so...

anyway, if anyone knows the reason or anything about this low pressure, please help

thanks

witt

Bump up to higher weight oil.

That is a terrible idea and definitely not getting to the source of the problem.

all depends if he's running 5W20 oil in florida like the previous owner of my car was... in other words, what weight oil are you running? and get a mechanical guage on there to check what the pressure actually is, the one in the dash is garbage

Probably the Oil Pressure Sensor going kaput. Very common problem with our FDs. It might help to disconnect the Sensor and clean the connection and the Sensor from the inside. If it does not stabalize the pressure reading, then it's time to purchase a new one.

thanks guys but where can i find the Oil pressure sensors?

Problem to me sounds like his bearing clearances are getting larger over time and he needs to bandage it with thicker oil. He might just be running too thin of oil in general.

did you figure it out?

Did you ever solve this problem? I have a very similar one:

low oil pressure

Verify with an aftermarket pressure gauge. Don't trust the stock one.

I did. My own electronic gauge and an external analog one.

Just a few more notes:

Old filter was thrown away before it could be inspected and pickup tube didn't have any stuff on it. Pickuptube was not bent, sealed just fine to the motor. Another mechanic at the facility said it's possible that one (or both) of the bearings may have "rotated", although that is very unlikely. They said that kind of problem would be accompanied by lots of mechanical noise...

I was reading in the manual that the oil cooler has a bypass valve... do you think it's possible that the valve is opening prematurely? I'm running out of ideas! Rotary mechanic checked the thermal pellet in the e-shaft and said it's fine.

I read another post where someone forgot to put an o-ring back in during assembly and he got very similar symptoms to what I have now:

weird oil pressure due to blown gasket for white o-ring that is between the front housing and the front cover
