Low Compression Help

I'm picking up a white 1989 Rex here pretty soon
with a compression problem. I guess it is a swapped
engine with a reading of 100lbs on the second rotor
and 30lbs on the first. Guy can't get the car started
and I decided to get it going in his stead.

Can anyone give me some ideas on what it might be
and approximate cost to get this car up and going again?
Thanks ahead of time.

most likely a rebuid. the cost to rebuid an engine starts arround 1500 bucks

if all the hard parts housings, plates.rotors and shaft are in specs you are gonna spend around 500,you can get a soft rebuild kit for around 200.00 and apex seals for around the same price, inspect all the others seals ans springs and replace only the out of spec parts, now if you want to do it the right way you need to repalce every hard and soft seals on the motor

So it sounds like that even though he swapped in a rebuilt engine, it's
going to need to be torn down again and rebuilt from scratch. Just want
to make sure. I'm up here in Seattle around Atkin's and the like, anyone
suggest a good mechanic to take it to?

i suggest do it yourself.. its not that hard really.. rotarys only have so many moving parts in em.. you can save what youd spend on labor and use that to buy what you need. As far as the actual rebuild goes there is honestly no way to tell how much your going to spend on it. You wont know until you look at it.. it may have to be completely replaced which will cost over 1k roughly or it could just be seals which is under 300.. plus theres no price for experience, then you'll feel more confident fixing anything else on your car

Hey thanks Roto, I think I'll go ahead and pick it up.
I mean 900 for a broken rex with mods is a killer deal
no matter how you look at it, much less for a slightly
modded S5.

if i remember right, off'a the top of my head you want to be 100-120lbs, but don't quote me. I'll have to go home and read my workshop manual to be certain. I think one of the problems to is that the guy who rated em' used a pressure tester for a piston engine, so it's only going to take the highest lb. from the three sides of the rotor. Which would mean in my instance 100lb's on one side could be 15lb's on the other and 45lbs on the other. Since my other rotors rating at 30lb's HIGH you can assume that the other two sides are somewhere under that......
