If i was losing compression

I would notice power loss right?!? Im new to the FD so forgive all my post ( just trying to learn here :) )... Right now im troubleshooting a boost issue witch is posted here https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...hreadid=273357 but what are other signs of a FD that is losing compression?!?

Hard to get it running I guess and probably a higher idle. Also lower vacuum, but I'm not sure about the last one.

the reason im asking is that i only pull about 15 to 15 1/2 psi of vaccum. Im just wondering if im having compression issue based off of that alone.. I know im prolly over worried but after reading about the life of these engines im kind of disapointed. I guess i should first do the Silicon hose reliability mod before i start jumping to conclusion though.. thx

15 units of Vacuum on non-ported engine is very low.
Is your engine ported maybe ?

RX7Wishing 02-19-04 05:55 AM

no its not. the car has 60k on it. Per the mazda dealership 15 is considered normal. but those guys just dont wanna admit there is a problem. im thinking that i have a vaccum leak somewhere.

Also, the engine idles at about 750 rpms, if i blip the throttel to about 1000 to 1300 rpms i hear a couple low backfires.. like pop pop... from some of the mechanics i talked to they all agree there sounds like a vaccum leak somewhere.... what do you guys think?

I agree with the mechanics. The idle is low but acceptable, but the low idle vacuum is not. You have a split hose somewhere in the rats nest maybe. I also have seen the factory hose get so hard that its connected end leaks. sometimes u can just cut a little of the end off the hose to get a better seal, or you can replace all the vacuum lines one at a time (So u dont get confused) Several lines around your intake snake under it so they may have to be skipped but the rats nest is a proven problem especially on the FC and FD cars. Best of luck!
