Ideas for Temporary Silencer?
 

This probably isn't a true "tech" question, but I wasn't sure where else to put it.

Long story short, I have worn out all the good will I have with my neighbors and they are starting to get upset.
Loading and unloading my race car in a suburban neighborhood is not working from a noise perspective.

I'm trying to find a way to temporarily (i.e. for the 10-15 mins. it takes to start the car, warm it up, move it out of the garage and load it on the trailer etc) take the edge of the racket.

Car is an FC chassis, NA w/ full bridge port, Racing Beat header and straight pipe to HKS dual mufflers. i.e. it's loud.
Obviously I don't want to add more muffler, as it is a dedicated track car.
Anybody have any ideas for silencers or something?

The one idea I had is to get a couple of those $20 "Cherry Bombs" and basically rig them up so I can just stick them in the ends of my tail pipes to take the edge of the noise for loading/unloading purposes. I heard about a 911 GT3 that did that at Calaboogie last year to get in under the track-side noise limit.

Anybody have any thoughts?

I had an apexi pipe silencer, it's abutterfly valve in the exhaust pipe, welded in. You control the angle of the butterfly to "silence" the exhaust, or leave it open etc...

~$200 + welding it into a pipe, they make a flange version and an 80mm pipe version.

Cherry bombs will melt over time but in your case you're probably ok. They're also pretty weak at muffling, mainly good for high frequency noises. Beyond that I dunno, maybe they'll work.

You could try temporarily swapping in the stock mufflers. Dunno how great it'd be.

Can you just leave the car on the trailer instead? i.e., never unload it except at the track?

It's also possible to do some minor electrical work to drive the car with the starter only (without starting the engine, i.e., purely electric vehicle). Not something you'd want to do for more than several seconds, or you'll burn out your starter motor. But maybe that's enough to get onto the trailer? I've heard of people doing it to get out of incidents involving nature. If you can regulate the voltage somehow, the starter will last a lot longer but it won't be as strong.

Unless you have an uphill push to get it out of your garage, why don't you get winch to pull it on the trailer?
As a general rule I never drive cars onto or into a trailer.

get bulldog steel wool, the course kind, and drill holes in the pipe so you have make an X with the bolts and put the steel wool in behind it and it should quiet it enough. and to get it out just take the bolts out and rev the car and the wool should fly out. it almost looks like the car is spitting out grey mice or something

a potato or banana might do the trick.

your neighbors really suck... can't understand you have a passion for the sport for just 15 minutes.... you can put a electric hitch on the trailer to pull up the seven ...or that electric butterfly ... hopefully something works out

Unload/load car normally. Wait for whining. Ignore.

Is there a nosie ordinance? Do you unload the car late at night?

I cut off the end of a Cherry bomb muffler and used it as a silencer for a long time. It fit perfect in my Kakimoto GT 1.0z with a 90mm tip.

Supertrapp works great for these situations. I have one like this for just such occasions. You can set it up to easily clamp to the tail pipe. Take it on/off in a minute or two.
