i think im flooded
 

Im new to being a RX7 owner. A 90 RX7 GTU. When i got the car i was told it wont run.
I Have been reading aboout how 86 ~ 92 RX7 flood bad, and was thinking thats what wrong with this one.

The car will try and start and then stop I pulled the plugs and they are covered in gas, and i get a strong smell of gas when it is trying to start. I tried to unflood the car. It started one time after that but then died again. do you think it is still flooding.

Please let me know what you think

try this, me and my friends have done this.

take off the spark plugs, take off the egi fuse, or u can unplug the fuel line. then crank the car a couple of times so that the fuel is spit out through the spark plug holes, then let it sit for a while. dry the plugs and put them back in. put in the egi fuse bak, or the fuel line. (watever u took off) try cranking it again with everything back, and it should start. DO NOT PUMP the GAS while cranking the car, that is wat floods it.

give that a try , hopefully it helps.

you might want to consider installing a kill switch to your fuel pump so you wont flood anymore.

Since you've got a S5, you could just hold the accelerator pedal to the floor and crank the engine.

The above method works great; here's the method I use to unflood a serriously flooded car:

Pull EGI (green) fuse. Crank car with accelerator pedal held down for ~10 seconds. Replace fuse, crank car with accelerator held down until it starts. It should start right up. If it doesn't start or it tries to start, repeat. If it didn't do anything, remove the spark plugs (leading and trailing). If they're saturated with gas, dry them off. I personally use a blow-torch, but compressed air will work just fine. Pull the EGI fuse, and crank the engine without the plugs in. Replace the EGI fuse. Put some 10w40 (or whatever you have on hand; don't use ATF as it can deterriorate the stock oil control ring rubbers) oil down the leading (bottom) spark plug holes (about 1/8cup is plenty). Replace the now dry (new?) spark plugs. Hold accelerator to the floor and crank engine. It should start up and smoke like crazy for a few minutes. If it doesn't start still, check the plugs to see if they're wet. Buy new plugs if they are. If it still won't start, you've got a more serrious problem.

To put the oil in the spark plug holes, I use either a funnel with a hose on it, an actual oil-bottle extention tube, or an oil pump can (buy them at auto stores for ~$10). Alternately, you can put it down the intake manifold (I forget weather or not S5's have spare nipples for each housing...)

Thanks for the help. The car is unflooded now and running.
But I think it might needs a new throttle body, because now it wont go over 30mph. should know in a few days. I took it to a better mechanic than me.
