hypothetical engine swap...

I'm still new to the rotary world but other than the cost of parts I'm really liking it. I have a 1979 well sorted rx7 but the engine is on its last leg that I race in ITA. I just fixed an rx8 that had a "blown engine" turns out just a clogged cat and 3 coils. When I sell the rx8 I will have the money to either rebuild the 12a or convert to a 13b.

I've done some searching but haven't found a clear answer to some questions. Apparently to do the swap to a 13b I can reuse my dist, front cover, and fab motor mounts. What about my carb? Will the intake manifold transfer over or do I have to get a wiring harness and go fi?

The second thing is, I see a company makes a flywheel and conversion kit to bold my 12a into my dune buggy. Something I've been frustrated for years with the under powered 39hp 1600cc.

What are my best options? I'm very good with a wrench and do everything myself. Even mount and balance my own tires now! I am a teacher so get summers to myself and ill have some money to throw at it. Realistically I don't want to spend more than 2k on an entire engine swap or replace and the power plant conversion for the dunebug should be kept to a min of conversion parts.

I'm wondering can I grab a decent running 13b, slap a carb on it, put that in the rx7 and then take all my parts on my 12a and just slap that sucker in my dunebug and drive it till it explodes for under 3k total in parts. I don't need a new racing 13b just something that can run reliably and produce a decent amount of power.

Any suggestions or links that can be studied to see the rout I want to take?

since the 13B is just a stretched 12A, the intake and exhaust manifolds don't interchange.

the good news is to get the 13B into the 12A car all you need is the 12A front cover, 13B oil pan, and this RX7 1975-1985: Engine - External: Front Engine Mount - 12A to 13B RX-7 Engine Conversion -

power wise, go with a 13b

well you would also need either the whole 13B long block with ECU or an aftermarket 4 port intake to carb adapter manifold as well as a new carb.

My god this is annoying! Does anyone sell just a regular 13b? All I see are turbos on ebay. I just would love to get my hands on an overly complicated mess and unreliable turbo mess!

I can barely get people on this forum who are selling stuff to respond to me let alone posting wtb non-turbo 13b long block with wiring harness.....
