hylomar or vaseline?

Anyone ever use Hylomar to keep coolant seals in place instead of vaseline?

Thanks, Ed

Don't... The waterseals are suppose to move a bit at the first warmup... Use vaselin!
But always use Hylomar on the spots where you should have sealent. It's the #1 in sealing stuff!

What's the consequences of using hylomar on the water seals? I've used it on all motors I've built over 12years with no consequence. Hylomar is none hardening gasket dressing it doesn't harden and allows for movement. Have a read http://www.permatex.com/auto/autouh....&item_no=25249 And you don't need to use goobs of the stuff only enough to hold the seals in place. And read what Mazdatrix states about vaseline and grease http://www.mazdatrix.com/q-supply.htm read under Hylomar. Oh and Racing Beats technical Manual also states to use Hylomar. I think I'll take there advise they have been building rotarys for quite a few years now.

Thanks for the info. I'm planning to use it on my next build but wanted to get some input first.

Thanks, Ed

Mazda does not recommend HYLOMAR for the coolant waters seals.

The reason to use vasaline is that as the engine heats up it burns off forming some carbon and helps to further seal/lock up the seals.

I use hylomar for all other seals except oil pan, and for those little areas between the housings where oil can seap through.

Anothe fine product from the Brits!

Shouldnt the Hylomar provide extra sealing as well when used with the coolant seals?

Thanks, Ed
