Hows this engine look?

Ok, I'm new to this whole rebuilding thing. I'm currently trying to rebuild a 6 port 13B. I just got the thing dissassembled tonight, and there are a couple things that concern me. Its mostly with the rotor housings. At both edges on both rotor housings there seems to be a groove wore in. Its not bad in some spots, but in others its enough to catch a fingernail. You'll see what I mean in the pics I linked to. Also, I was wondering about the rotors themselves. What are they from? I was told this was a S4 NA engine, but after finding an 83-85 12A flywheel on it, I don't know what it is.

Anyway, if you could tell me basically what I can use from this, that would be great. Thanks.

who did the ports on the irons?
if you reuse the housings you have 50% chance that they gonna work
one of your rotors looks shady(bent corner)
was the engine running good before you pull it apart?

The engine ran before I took it out. Reason for tear down was to check the rotor bearings for excessive wear after finding out the rear bearing was bad. I figured I'd rebuild it while it was apart. I really don't like the way those rotor housing look though. The groove around the outside edges is almost unnoticeable, but in other places its deep enough to catch a fingernail. I'd prefer not to use them, but I am on a budget here, and if I did get new/used ones, I would have to port the exhaust to match.

As to who did the ports, I have no clue. I got this engine in a parts car I bought. It ran, but not too well. Found out it was a problem with the FI system, so I'm just ditching it for a carb. Why do you ask?

I'm not sure which rotor you think has a bent corner, but thats most likely just the angle/quality I took the pic at. I just inspected both and there are no bent corners.

Eeeeeekkkk!!

I'm trying to find a nice way to put this......but I cant, those ports really suck! well the ones does, kinda hard to tell from some of the pics.

The housings have seen better days also, I personally wouldn't use them. I'm sure they would work......for a little while.

Ya, whoever built this engine was a real amature. I know the ports are "bad". Think there is any way to clean them up? Anyway, I think I'll just try to find some S4 NA housings for a good price. Amazing thing is, this engine supposedly made about 150rwhp on stock S4 ECU and old, dirty injectors.

For the record, I did not do these ports. I have never done a port job, and this is my first rebuild. I've got enough knowledge to do the rebuild, I was just unsure of a couple things. In other words, say what you want about the ports. I don't really care. I'm hoping though they can be fixed up a little.

i really pity the rotor.

What? Pity the rotor?

Actually, I've went over both the rotors after cleaning and they are both in excellent shape.

i guess the lighting must be really bad. it seems to me that whoever does ur motor is not professional. how much did u pay him anyway?

This motor was built by someone for the person I bought it from. But the lighting is pretty bad. I've checked out the ports and its mostly just the primary ports that were badly done. The end plates look pretty good besides one spot where they went a little low with the aux. port. Other than that, the ports just need a little bit of cleanup around the edges.

I'm thinking I'll just use the S4 TII intermediate iron I have here and do a streetport on it. I'm still considering my options though. As it is, both my rotor housings are not usable, and all the irons have to be lapped because of corner seal step wear. It seems that when I need the S4 housings there are none to be found, but when I don't need them they are plentiful.
