how hard is it to

hey, i was at work today and the two guys i work with know im rebuilding my 13b and all they go on about is how hard it is and how there a shitty motor and junk like that.. what my question is how hard is it to actually build one.. i took mine apart within 30 mins.. i understand pulling things apart and putting it together are two different things but honestly.. it doesnt seem that hard to build a rotary.. i have watched the diy-13b a few times and it just looks like a lot of time cleaning and checking tolerances, along with good judgement. sorry to rant but they said theres a reason why only two guys in western canada only do it..

whats everyones opinion. (in my head, it doesnt seem that hard)

matt.

Are these old school v8 people by any chance...?
They have rather skewed opinions on imports...

I had no issues building my motor, started first try, great compression, although i am rather mechanically apt.

As long as everything is specced properly and you follow the FSM you shouldn't have any big issues imo.

nah man these guys run a import business importing skylines and surpas and fds and all the sports cars from japan and all the rest of the crap from there like soarers and stuff.. they just said that its not a good idea and that it wouldnt work they way i imagine it ... i am mechanically inclined aswell i took my fd down to a short block and pieced together a turbo system put it on with everything else( injectors and stuff) and made 430 whp.. i also took a shortblock rb26 and put all accesssories like turbos and everything on myself.. i even tuned my fd myself with my datalogit. .lol... im just a little frustrated with them :P what i wanted to do was run the rotary aviation gaskets and springs with goopy apex seals.. but i just dont know if i should use goopys apex seal springs or the ra seal springs. not sure if there compatible
