How Do I fix this :)
Just replaced the seal and rear u-joint.
Was honking on it for about an hour, and then the vibrations told me I was done :) Trans is a smooth case n/a 1st gen. This is in a Datsun 510, and the person who shortened the driveshaft made it too short! There is still 3 5/8 thread/spline engagement, but did this have something to do with it? Been beating on it just like this for 3500 miles. Only thing that changed was the seal. And it too is gone...??? Can this be fixed from the rear? Or do I need to pull it. Thanks, https://c1.staticflickr.com/8/7628/2...c3916326_b.jpg https://c5.staticflickr.com/9/8805/2...8084f531_b.jpg |
Wow. I didnt even see the cracking in the case/snout.
Looks like its gotta come out! |

yes, bearing came out.

Ouch!
Well you can take that driveshaft out and beat it over the head of the guy who "shortened it too much". That was your problem and your end result of having too short of a driveshaft. |
Yup...this poor car was touched by a dummy.
Picked up another trans and driveshaft. Measured it up and dropped it off this am. Need the Mazda full shaft, with the datsun rear end yoke on it. Should be up and running this weekend. Putting in a new bearing/seal. Thanks. |
