How-to: Atkins rotary engine stand adapter
 

I just received the rotary engine stand adpater from Atkins and I cannot seem to figure out how to bolt it my engine stand. I have a universal stand from Summitt and it has the plate with the tube out the back and 4 bolt holes. The Atkins plate does not lineup at all with the holes like the Pinnapple one. So how does it mount to the stand? Pics would help greatly.

My engine stand must be unique because the plate is different - it does not have slotted holes like the Harbor Frieght one
the arms are slotted instead

I'll have to figure some other way to mount it

BTW, I remember my friend had the Pinnapple adapter but his stand was from harbor frieght

OK, after searching around town for 3hrs, I've tried to fit this adapter to 5 different engine stands with no luck. The unusually small holes are in the wrong positions and too close together to mount to any of the stands at Harbor Freight, Autozone, Checkers, a local tool store, and the one I have from Summitt.
That does not sound very universal to me, much less useful.
My final decision was to have my stand plate drilled for the holes in the adapter, which I'm waiting for right now. I just hope it actually works.
I'll definitely be contacting Atkins about this.

Geez Tim, I had no idea this was such a pain for you. We could have copied my Pineapple one for fairly cheap.
Call me when you get a sec., i'm curious if you've made any headway on your clutch. Are you done with finals?

Yeah, but I wanted to get started this weekend

I got the plate drilled and it cost $32 because it was so thick
Plus the bolts that Atkins sent were 4" long - twice as long as they should be
Thus I had to buy shorter bolts
So the total cost to get the Atkins adapter to work was $35 on top of the $45 for the adapter itself
I tried to order the Pinneapple one but they were out of stock

So I finally got ahold of Atkins and he pretty much said that it was a copy of the original Mazda one - which is probably at least 25 years old. He never claimed it would actually work and just gave a bunch of lame excuses and no solutions.
I definitly do not recommend anyone buy this as it is an outdated design and will not work on newer engine stands. The Pinneapple adapter is much higher quality and actually works as described.

I don't know why members continue to buy adapter plates when one can mount the front iron to the arms of any engine stand by simply removing the studs in the front iron and using long bolts to go through the arms and into the housings.

The nice thing about my method is it also balances the engine making it quite easy to rotate on the stand for assembly/disassembly.
