Well you shouldnt get upset, I mean, atleast I want to use a rotary in a OFF brand
Im sure you guys are familiar with the vw bug guys wanting rotary conversions...so here I go I been doing alot of research, sounds like the 89-91 13b 4 port engines are the best, but scarce. My questions are, if you could help 1. Is there an aftermarket 13b 4 port intake(to run carb) and header for the 89-91?(I wouldnt need the fuel injection,causes a wiring cluster!) 2. Would I be best to just have a regular 13b built with the lighter rotors that the 89-91 has? At this time, I have no cores or any contacts, I would be buying a brand new engine possibly |
why don't you just get an rx-7 WITH the rotary already in it? Once you drive the car and enjoy the handling, looks, etc...you'll forget all about the bug...

1) yes there is
2) I'd personally rather have the 87-88 13BT than the 89-91 13BT Lower compression=more safe boost. Boost can be cooled easier than air inside the cumbustion chamber. Good Luck to you. www.tweakit.net look at the intake manifold that is for the 13BT that will work with a Carb even though they don't offer it with a card. Santiago |

I do agree the post is 2nd generation, but it is bug related kind of too. Its ok with me, as long as I get good replies!
The turbo set up is all nice, but in a vw engine, space is limited, and im looking for 200 hp at flywheel using a carb setup. I thought about the 6 port, but if the 4 port is better, why not. I would want to run aftermarket intake and carb, and I figure why not get the 4 port and carb it. The car is actually a ghia convertable. What are the advantages of a J spec engine over the engine in the usofa? If I can achieve my horsepower goal, thats all that matters, and the less radical the better, because this is a convertable, and I will have to quiet it down,unless you guys know of a good muffler that is free flowing but quiet. Anyone ever try a WARLOCK muffler on a rx7? them are the mufflers that you can un cork with three wing nuts. Ill stop blabbing |
200hp at the flywheel will usually require some porting, if you can get aaron cake (or was it icemark?) to take a look at this thread, they would be the ones to talk to. One of them has a n/a 2nd gen over 200hp
I would personally prefer a 6 port setup for n/a. More torque down low, and same horsepower up high. They are harder to port though, since the aux. ports are very close to water jackets. And the exhaust ports have those stupid diffusers in them. But acheiving 40hp above stock shouldn't be too hard. good luck |

Ill stop blabbing 200FHP is relatively easy on a 13B, hell you can do it on a stock port engine. A port engine will probably be cheaper, but there aren't any jspec 6 port engine readily available; wich pretty much throw the local used engine shop out of the window. I believe there was a thread about the warlock mufflers on a rotary engine, when it was corked the power was all gone and uncorked was way too loud. I don't remember if it was a thread or on a grass motorsports magazine. |
