HKS 6sp Sequential, How does it work?

Hey everybody,

This might be a silly question, but I was wondering how the HKS 6 speed Sequential tranny operates. I'm not talking about how the internals work or anything like that, but how you operate it when your driving.

Is it a clutchless system? do you just let off the gas and shift into the next gear and apply gas? Is it true that you can shift it without even taking your foot of the gas?

With the HKS tranny you can do clutchless upshifts but not down. You still need to lift off the throttle when you upshift but you don't need the push the clutch. As for downshifting you still need the clutch and you must match revs when you shift as if I remember correctly the tranny has no syncros. I have heard that it is tricky at first but once you get used to it shifting is no problem.

BTW: I think Soul Assassin has one.

Sequential Boxes work a lot like motorcycle boxes - clutchless up shifts - (just a quick lift of the throttle and grab the next gear) and Clutch w/ Rev matching on downshifts :D

I see... I was to down shift and I "forget" to rev-match what kind of damage could happen? and would this damage be easily repaired?

If it used dog rings instead of any sort of synchro ring then excess dog ring wear will occur if you do this often. As I don't know how the transmission is built internally i am guessing it's a dog ring set up... How much to rebuild? God knows, knowing HKS an arm, two legs and a lot of luck to find the parts are in stock... :-)
