High rpm Problem

My 88 turbo2 used to run perfect sometimes, then other times it would lose power in high rpms and backfire.but when i push the pedal a little bit it will rev all the way up but be slow.now it went from doing it half the time.it does it all the time.i replaced the fuel filter, got the timing and coils checked.i have perfect grounds.i am thinking maybe the FPR? or the Fuel filter on the fuel pump? please help! not that my rebuilt motor has only 5000 miles on it.

What condition are the catalytic converters in? How long has it been since the fuel pickup strainer in the fuel tank been in there? Make sure that that car is not running too lean. You'll kill that engine really quick.

well my car has 130000 on the body and around 5000 on the rebuilt motor.the catalytic converters are supposed to be fairly new,it doesnt overheat.the fuel pickup strainer as far as i know has never been changed

well right before the problem started being a all the time problem it would run perfect, fast and be almost full power when i was low on gas like a quarter tank.but in 4th and 5th high rpms it would stop and go

does anybody know what this problem is?

I guess I'd test the fuel pressure and go from there. It wouldn't hurt to replace the sock in the fuel tank either.

the actual plug that plugs into the fuel injector on the fuel rail.make sure they are tight mine didnt even look like it was loose but i pushed all of the connectors tight for my last attempt of fixing my motor before resorting to mazdas and more
