What year is the car? What options/model (GS, GSL-SE, GTUs, TII, SE)? Automatic or manual?

Also you can probably do the brake line yourself for about $30 and two hours, three if you don't have help bleeding it.

Ok at only 1000 and bogging a bit it sounds like you just need to adjust the idle speed and idle mixture.

Follow these directions to adjust the idle: http://www.sterlingmetalworks.com/idle_circuit.html

The idle mixture screw is at the base of the carb, on the left side of the engine. The idle speed screw is about 3-4 inches to the right of it tucked under and back from the linkage. You need to warm the engine up first and the adjustment should be done in neutral, so set the parking brake and block the wheels.

I don't have all of my manual handy at the moment, I do not know if there is any difference in adjusting an automatic. You may want to wait for someone who does to verify that, I take no responsibility.
