Help Warning Lights flash with a grinding sound from the engine

I own a 93 R1, the other night driving home from NH my warning lights started to flash and there was a heavy grinding sound coming from the engine bay... so i naturally freaked out and pulled over and turned the engine off. The car was used alot that whole day i really only turned it off twice all day long, i checked all my fluids before i left and after everything was fine. The car still starts up but soon after does the same thing. Anyone have any ideas on what this could be?

which warning light was coming on , check your turbos your clutch, your pressure plate and your rear end, if it is none of that you prolly have a loose apex seal

You may get more feedback on the 3rd gen forum.

If the warning lights come on (I mean pretty much all of them), the alternator went kaboom. In you case, the noise probably comes from the alternator bearing about to seize.

If the alternator is gone, the battery won't last long either (maybe 1 hour day - 20 mns at night).

You could also check the alt output just to make sure it is the alt.

Look at voltmeter. At idle, with no electrical gadgets on, you should get at least 14.4 V, now turn on headlights, the voltage should drop a little, but then if you rev to 2000 rpm, it should go back up to 14.4V or more.
If you don't have that behavior, time for a new alt. I would change the battery as well.
