Help Urgent, Spewed Coolant!

Basically, I went for a drive, came home, after 20 minutes, my coolant spewed everywhere from my overflow tank! When I was driving everything was fine, didnt overheat, the red light didnt come one, but after i parked, this is what happened, what does this mean? stuck thermostat?

PLEASE HELP!

THANKS,

Ravi

3 possibilities: stuck thermostat
collapsed radiator hose
motor go bye bye

another possibility...

...it burped.
no seriously, mine burped when i got a new engine put in and they didn't bleed out all the air. only it wasn't from the overflow bottle, it was from the cap. but you should definitely get it looked at.

Test the coolant warning light/buzzer to see that it is working - I think if you unplug it, the alarm will go off (do it with the engine off - key on, just in case).

As well, you may get smoke for a while - if it is okay. The bolts at the thermostat were loose on my car, and I spilled a lot of coolant. I tightend it up and it was fine, however I thought I'd sprung another leak because it would smoke for a while after I turned off the car. (Not while on because the fan would blow the smoke away). Turns out, a lot of coolant spilled into the exhaust manifold box/cover, and was burning. I hosed it down (while cool) and it was fine.

as long as you're not spewing LOTS of white smoke (engine burning coolant) you're ok. maybe it was just overfilled :)

Cap Pressure!

Check your cap pressure! It's really important, especially on a 3rd Gen. I think they are set for 12 PSI. If they don't work right or if they get stuck and then suddenly bleed off to the overflow tank, then it will blow coolant everywhere. Check both of the caps..
Just a possibility....If no white smoke, then motor probably ok.
Make sure all the air is bled out too.
Hope that helps..

Umm...

...When's the last time you filled your coolant (overflow tank). If you were running normal temp, and not smokin, you probably over filled it too much, and when your car got to normal temp the coolant, expanded/spewed from the overflow valve. I did this before, I felt pretty fuckin stupid =)

hey rav

mate do a quick pressure test on it first, if there is a problem with a engine seal the pressure will drop slowly if this happens take out a plug on the front and rear housing and do it again if the coolant seeps through bye bye engine
