Help! Trying to buy FD. Injector Problems!!!

I'm from Omaha Nebraska and looking at a 93 R1 about 650 miles away and don't want to trailer it home. I went to school for automotive but have never really delt with Rotary so I basically can do anything I need if I know what I'm dealing with.

Here is some of the add:

"""1993 mazda rx7 FD
R1 edition
Twin turbo 13b
Manual trans

Pros: rebuilt motor with Reman block.($3000)
2mm seals
Egr delete
Hardened clutch fork
stage 2 clutch

Cons:
Has staring issue. It cranks, fires, gets fuel to the rail, has 105-120 compression in rotors.
The injector is not firing. Ive had Trackmasters verify this.
Cheap fix just no time"""

He has told me so far that:
-The car just cut out on him after taking a corner and hasn't idled on its own without starting fluid.
-Both sets of injectors get power they just don't receive the signal to fire.
-Worst case its the harness
-Best case its the ground

What would you guys suggest??
-Bad injectors? (but how would all four just stop)
-Computer fried?
-Harness?
-Ground?
-EGI fuse?
-Engine coolant temp sensor?
-???

I really appreciate any help as soon as possible seeing how I wanna make the trip tomorrow haha..

Anyone?

Tem120 11-15-13 09:24 AM

maybe hte fuel pump . fuel pump on these cars isnt exactlyu great and the wiring even less

jordanowski 11-15-13 09:30 AM

Walbro fuel pump, and fuel is getting to the rail fine with good prssue, just none are firing.

Tem120 11-15-13 10:20 AM

how about spark ? the injectors harness goes directly to the ECU .

j9fd3s 11-15-13 11:15 AM

probably needs an engine harness, like the headlight lids, this is a wear part and needs to be replaced periodically

How long/difficult is it do do a engine harness on this? I basically need to do it to get it to where I can drive it back.

its not a quick job . specially if you have never worked on the motor , You basically have to make it into a half block .

I've narrowed it down to the engine harness and have found one in town for less than $100.00. Would it take to long to do it out in a drive way? do I need to get under the car at all?

You should verify that. Don't take anyone's word for it unless it's a trusted rotary mechanic.

You could change the harness out in about 2 hours (if you know what you are doing). However, I would recommend if you really want this car, just get it trailered and deal with it properly when you get it.

Tem120 11-15-13 03:48 PM

hmm , first thing i'd get rid of is those slim fans and get some OEM fans in there . as for being worth it .. it really depends . I mean i've invested 20k into my car and I had to build it from scratch .. so i'm a bad judge of what is worth it or not LOL , But if this is a car you would keep for ever .. then yes its worht it if its a car you just want to flip . thats a hard choice because you dont REALLY know..

I love FDs but currently I would only be looking to flip seeing how I'm trying to build my drift car and thought I could make a few grand off of it. Later I want to build my own FD rx 7

Tem120 11-15-13 04:04 PM

it might be hard to find someone who will pay 10k for a rebuilt title FD . when you can find decent ones out there . But thats just me.. I'm not in the flipping business so I dont know

I've been flipping since I owned a 90 Celica (13 vehicles ago), now I own a 91 skyline gtr drift car haha. Just don't want to drive forever away for a junker.

I doubt you'll flip a salvage title for much more unless you put a lot more in it (in which case you'll lose more). If you are looking for a flip "this is not the droid you are looking for" unless you can find someone really stupid to pay more for it. If you are looking to build your drift car, this sounds like a good candidate.

I agree it would be a perfect candidate for a drift car, but I already have one. I've decide that the cons out way the pros on this car for what I want to do and the distance is way to far. Ill keep looking for an rx7 in the future. Thanks everyone for all the help!
