Help please! idling problem
 

Just got an 01 RX7 non-turbo, and here is what it is doing.

cold start the engine and it will flactuate between 1.5k to 2.0k rpm, when turn on the A/C at that time the idling stable at 1.5k . after warm up the idle stable at 1.5k . do you guys know what is the problem with the car? I just got it and I know nothing about it.

I'm sure someone will have better advice, but I would say try to get the warm idle down first, then make sure the TPS is adjusted. Maybe the BAC valve? (plugged in & switching) Check for vacuum leaks too.

Since it's S5, are you getting a check engine light?

I could help you with it, just say the word. Have you got the FSM on your harddrive yet? Very valuable.

what is a FSM? I dont know. the pervious only have replaced the TPS and the themo thing already and the idling is still sucks. the idling at 1.5k is because the pervious owner brough the car back to the shop and have it adjusted. hm... no check engine light tho...

oh 1 more question. will this be a sign of a almost dead engine? it feels normal when I am driving it but it is hard to get the car rev higherfrom 5k to 7k. I almost didnt feel safe to do so ...

The revving problem could be old catyletic converters. Mine doesn't want to make redline either and I'm still using a high-mileage main. The operation of your 6th port valves could also be an issue.

Have you tried bringing the idle down with the screw on top of the manifold? I think you've got that on the S5.

A compression test is the only way to really know the condition of the engine.

will that cost me a arm and a leg to get it fix?

Naw, you can figure it out yourself. I've got lots of free time at the moment. Where are you at?

I'm on the other side of the lake. Sort of Greenlake area.

The only things I'll let a shop do are things I don't have the equipment for, like wheel/tire stuff & alignments. And you really have to watch where you take your rotary from some of the "it needs a new engine" stories I've read.
