HELP! Oil Metering Pump

So on my 91 N/A i was told my Oil Metering Pump was bad, and i have no clue what this does or anything. The mazda dealership told me it was going to cost like $1500 for the part! Is this true? Thanks David

Search the 2nd gen parts section to find a used one for around $50.00. Mine doesn't work either. I just premix 1oz of 2cyl oil to every 1 gallon of gas on my S5 vert.

I saw one on e-bay this morning.

How hard are these to install? Time and labor.

If you reuse the oilpipes, replacing the OMP itself should not be more than half an hour.

Nice Thanks, If it doesnt end up being the oil metering pump, what else would cause my car to sputter and buck? I mean my car has less than 80k original miles its an N/A and its never been ran without oil or coolent.

The OMP will just put you in default mode (limp home mode).
Intermittant mis-fires are usually something else.

My first guess is your TPS is just starting to wear out.
A bad spot in the sensor value at part throttle will confuse the ECU & give intermittant fuel cuts.

My S5 vert isn't responding this way. When I rebuilt my engine, I also replaced all the OMP lines. With over 3k on the rebuild, the lines still haven't filled all the way so I've been premixing. Why wouldn't my ecu recognize this fault and kick into limp home mode? I'm starting to think this is what killed my engine in the first place even though my housings were still in great shape.

Good show - catching the problem & pre-mixing.
The ECU sees MOP actuator continuity and position, but It can't see blocked oil supply line.
If the front cover was installed with sealant, it's easy to accidently block the oil passage hole to the MOP.

Well this is exactly why I dislike the upgregaded braided steel OMP lines. You can't see anything.

I didn't use sealant, just the gasket. I also made sure the hole in the front cover was free of clogging. I believe the OMP on my 20b is the same, I may just try to use that one and see if it works.
