Help is needed
Sup Every body. I have a couple of question i hope to get some help with. First, I just changed my oil and used a 5w30, is that bad. Secondly, my upper radiator cap's seals bursted while driving today. That can't be normal. I had coolant every where. back to the point should i buy a new high quality cap or is there something else i should do. Buy the way i have another stock cap on it right now. thanks Matt22 |
from what i think 5w30 is way to thin to be putting it in a rotory. rotory engines put off a lot of heat so thats probably why your coolent cap burst. I would probably suggest you put 20w50 for a rx7.

From everything I have heard and read 50w oil is too thick to flow well through the small oil passages inside the turbo when the turbo is glowing red hot. The slower flow and thicker oil starves the turbo bearings of cool guality oil. I use to be a Saab tech and they sent out several bulletins from there own engineers and also from Garrett ( there turbo suppliers) about the subject when they started using turbos. The Mazda shop manual says below 32*F 5w 30 and 10w 30 in the summer. To me 30w oil is thin so I use 2 quarts 10w 30 and 2 quarts of 10w 40 when I change. Alot of people do use heavier oil though.
