HELP, My car won't start!! 1988 n/a
 

Please help! I parked my car on Monday last week and tried to start it up yesterday and it wont start! The engine turns over and I replaced the spark plugs and wires because I thought it was the problem, but that didn't help any. While cranking, 2 of the spark plugs show irradic flashing on the timing light. The other 2 plugs show no flashing on the light. I smell fuel, so I believe it is being delivered. I even tried pulling the "ecu comp" fuse and cranked it to try and dry up any gas in case of flooding. Still nothing....Can anyone help?

when you pulled the fuse, did you remember to remove the plugs as well?

which two plugs were you referring to ... "show no flashing on the light."?

I actually changed the spark plugs, but did not pull them out when cranking the motor over with no comp fuse. As far as the plugs, I'm not sure if they were the leading or trailing.

If still having problems, need to pull plugs when cranking to expell the gas. If you put new plugs in and cranked, probably fouled the new plugs. Pull plugs and crank engine over, fuse out, pedal to the metal. As some say, put a match to plugs to burn off the gas before reinstalling.

I'll try this when I get off work. Let me ask you this, do you think there could be a problem with one of the coils since a timing light will only flash on 2 of the wires?

well, i was thinking that maybe one of your coils was shot when you mentioned the thing with timing light, but i'd need to know if you were able to isolate a leading or trailing pair.

at any rate, the car should still start on one set, it'll just run like crap! :(

concentrate on trying to unflood it first. make sure your battery is fully charged before cranking. like turbonut said, take the plugs out while cranking so you can blow all the gas and moisture out of the combustion chamber. then re-install the plugs and try it. get all the moisture off the plugs with a lighter (or if you have a gas stove).
