HELP jammed omp hardline
 
Hello first post here!

​​​​​​​ if anyone can help me with my rx7 please comment back. I'm having issues ..after I installed my freshly rebuilt turbo(bigger turbo s4 13b Mico tech) when I put it in I had to move some pump up(guessing pollution pump) and it jammed a hard line which I'm pretty sure is the omp line. I never realized it jammed this hard line. It ran great no problems lots of boost I took it on a 4hr drive the next day and on my 4hr drive home the thing started running very speratic it literally died as I pulled in the driveway home. So what I'm asking is did I mess it up by jamming the omp line and taking it for a long drive??? Any help would be greatly appreciated

the omp lines are plastic, hardly what i call "hard" as they will break if you look at them wrong. what you probably crimped is the turbo oil feed line. better hope it wasn't the oil feed, because your turbo is smoked if it was.

but pictures might be helpful, instead of guessing all day.

Maybe it's not the omp line then. It's a hard rod not really a line I was told it's supposed to go up and down and regulates how much oil goes into the motor I'll take a picture for you tomorrow and show you exactly what I'm saying.

That sounds like the OMP rod, which would control how much oil is injected into the rotor housings. This is part of the lubrication system which the rotary relies on. So unless you also premix, not good.

Ahhh not good. I don't pre mix. so I guess I probably cooked it on that 4hr long drive with no proper oil lubing the housing/seals? Fu** that's a costly mistake.

not likely

a) the OMP still injects oil even if the rod is down, cruising you'd likely be getting enough anyways let alone if it was stuck in the up position youd be getting more than enough.

b) lack of internal lubrication takes many thousands of miles to do enough detrimental damage to cause low compression.

c) you can actually run with zero OMP and no premix temporarily with almost no ill effects if absolutely necessary, but i wouldn't advise it.


people continue to overhype premixing and OMP lubrication, as if the engine is cooked after driving a few hours without it. it is necessary, but these aren't real 2 stroke engines that lubricate pistons and rod bearings with that lubrication that can seize in a minute without it.

the rod is basic and can be bent, or re-bent back into shape. it's actually the lowest tech part of these already low tech engines.

to top it all off, you cannot open the throttle if it is jammed in the down position, so it's likely you were overlubricating the engine.

your issue is something else. if you drove the car hard before the issue started, then do a compression test.

I read "lots of boost" and assumed he romped on it all day and night. I don't disagree with what you said.

And if the rod got jammed up, that means you actually increased the oil supplied via the OMP. No harm from the OMP line.

It must have got jammed up cause i had no power loss or anything like that... Not going to lie I drive the car hard lots of drifting/racing. It's bridge ported with a t06 turbo probably at about 18lb of boost. I think I'm due for a v8 swap need reliability the way I drive something I can beat on and still last long. I'll do a proper compression test and see what I get I'm already assuming the worst though.

18psi is a lot for just pump gas, does it even make more power at that high of boost?

I can't remember what it made to be honest somewhere in the 350-375hp range it's had a lot of work done to it previous owner dropped like 15k into the car. Now she's just sitting out side getting ruined from the weather.

unfortunately most of this stuff is documented, 18psi is pretty dangerous on pump fuel if the tune isn't spot on, to the point of turning it down to 15-ish and losing about 30hp but being quite a bite safer is a lot wiser.
