HELP! FD isnt starting up?? cranking but wont start!

So i bought a 94 fd about 4 months ago, its got 40k miles on motor and tranny etc. ive had absolutely no problems with the car since ive owned it. well last weekend i swerved to avoid a deer and my rear tires literally have no tread on them at all to the point the wear bars are showing. but ya anyways i was on my way to the track to watch a local drift event that a bunch of my 240sx friends put on, and i saw 3 deer in the road and it was still raining where i was. i swerved but when i pulled the wheel the ass end just slid out and i came around and went into someones front yard, i bottomed out and ripped one of the tabs off of the radiator so there was a small hole in it. and i messed up the fender a little bit when i bottomed it out. anywyas i got the car back ot my house, fixed the radiator. filled the coolant back up. and it took about ten minutes to finally get it to start. when it started it up was running rough for some reason, it idled really low and it sounded like a built motor with cams but we all know that isnt true... anyways it was smoking a little bit more then normal. but then it was fine. i took it out for a drive and everything was fine. then the coolant guage went above half and the light came on, i gave it a little rev and it dropped back down to half. anyways i parked it, went inside printed my paper and showered. came back outside and went to leave and go to class. well it would keep cranking but it wouldnt start. also i dont have a hood on the car right now and havent for about 4weeks...

anybody know what the hell is going on or what to check for???

jack it up and check to see what else got ripped out, fuel lines, wiring, something is not connected.

1. BUY TIRES
2. INSTALL HOOD
3. insure map sensor is hooked up properly
4. replace spark plugs and perform deflood procedure

Any the map sensor is on the firewall with a connector and 1 vac line hooked to it just in case you were about to ask.

deflood

ohh alright so it could possibly be the coolant seal??? the car turns over freely and doesnt amke any fucked up sounds i guess. so thats a good sign??

Have you been able to start it again? If so did it smoke on cold start. Coolant seals can be tricky to diagnose, best way to know is drive the car and see if it eats coolant or smokes profusely on startup with white smoke.

I should've taken a video of my previous FD, that would've shown you EXACTLY what shot coolant seals looks like, smoked for the first four minutes or so if I hadn't driven it for a week.

So let your car sit for a week and see what happens.

On the plus side, if you are leaking coolant, you're gonna have very little carbon build up if its been doing it for a while due to the steam cleaning effect you're getting.

well when i started it, it would smoke endlessly for about 5 minutes. if i tried to give it gas it would be bogging and smoking even more. then it was fine to drive for a bit, then the coolant light and alarm would come on and beep for a few min, then shut off. after that i would unscrew the cap to put coolant in and it would have back pressure and blow coolant out of the filler. then i would pour more in give it about 30minutes or more and it would go off again and i would repeat the process. does that sound as if its a coolant seal?? im new to the whole rotary scene sorry guys

Yes it does.
Do you have an aftermarket radiator?
I have a Koyo and my coolant reservoir is disconnected, and I have to fill it from the radiator cap.
My last FD had a nice big crack in the reservoir, a little JB weld fixed it up good.
Check to make sure the vacuum line to your MAP sensor is hooked up too.
If you get the car up to operating temps, it's GONNA blow coolant everywhere if you take the Radiator cap off, the water heats up and expands, consider yourself lucky you didn't get burned.

Jack the car up, there's a tan tank in front of the passenger wheel well, check it for cracks, I've had an FD that it was cracked on, and a buddy locally had a cracked one as well.

Sounds like it is time for a new engine, if it blows smoke for 5 mins it is either some really shot turbos(unlikely), failed oil control ring(even less likely) or bad coolant seal(most likely considering other symptoms). I hate to be the one to say it but if you cant afford some decent tires this may not be the car for you. Looks like you are going to need to speed $2-4k on the car in the very near future depending on your mechanical ability, good luck whatever you decide.
