help... big problems right after rebuild

 something is really not right... i put the rebuilt engine in my 87 gxl, and now it wont start. checked every timing position and such, no luck.:( i also cant find out where the cruise control vac line goes... anybody know? im pretty sure everything is hooked up right. i really cant figure it out on my own... any help would go a long way. thanx

fresh rebuilds sometimes have little or no compression sometimes because the apex seals need to wear into the reused rotor housings. Put some ATF in the spark holes, turn over by hand, and if necessary, to the complete flooding procedure (search this forum for the details). If you have a compression guage, I would also do a compression check before / after putting in the ATF (automatic transmission fluid) into the lower spark plug holes.

Mine had 0 compression on it after it sat for a while, turned over without a hint of any compression resistance. The ATF trick cured it and i got it going after about 15 minutes of doing the unflooding routine on it.

Go get it!

how many times did you try it before you started messing with the timing and such?

i will assume that you've confirmed that you're getting fuel and spark, so it would seem that compression would be the next thing to check on ... use some gear oil (mineral based) instead of the ATF. turn the engine by hand through a few revolutions and see if you hear any changes in the sealing. then try to start it ...
