Gsl-SE TPS what else can I use?

I have a Gsl-se (84) and its haveing the boinging idle problem (up to 2k, down to 1k up to 2k etc) until I stab the throttle and then it seems to settle down. But I noticed this started when I noticed a short sound coming form the TPS. I was thinking of junkyard diving for the TPS since a new one is way expensive, Anyone know what other tps from other cars might fit/work with these?

Thanks in advance,

Hugh

SE bouncing idle is not always the TPS, but you can try a few things first to see if this is the problem. First off, you'll want to build a TPS test light unit - check around through searches to build one. This will allow you to adjust the TPS to the correct position, which can change as it wears, or if weather changes in your locale.

Also, the bouncing idle on my SE has been caused by the throttle (primary) arm not turning smoothly in the throttle body, causing the idle compensator to bump up the idle, open the butterflies, idle goes up; compensator kicks in, closes the butterflies, idle goes down, ad infinitum.

Take off the air pipe leading to the TB and oil the shafts inside and out where the primary and secondary butterflies are located. You may see some improvement.

This is a design issue with the SE TB, since they are steel shafts going through an Al housing, causes 'spalling' of the metals and leads to rough action. HTH,

Man that car is beautiful . I am trying to get my gsl-se to that state. I think I might be swapping the motor for an later model. Gonna try a FI upgrade to the staged injectors since this little 680 seems to run outta steam on top.

Any advice?

A Series4 FC TPS is the same as the SE one... more plentiful

No, no it's not. It faces backwards to a GSLSE TPS. The only way it could work is to swap brackets.
