GSL-SE F.I. w/ exhuast
Hey all! I just picked up an 85 GSL-SE. I am curious as to the issue of using the stock fuel injection unit with a full exhaust system. Will this setup work poor, fair or excellent. Also, how will this setup compare to using carbs with the exaust? As you may know, I don't have much tuning knowledge....if any body can give me advice and wisdom regarding this setup, it would be much helpful.

Yes you can have a full exhaust with the factory fuel injection. If you can't tune very well I'd skip the car. There's more to it than bolting it on. I much prefer using a stand alone EMS with the factory intake. Its simple and you will see gains doing it, problem is you need to tune the EMS as well. A chassis dyno and an experienced tuner is a must.

What is an EMS and it's function?

EMS = Engine Management System
Its function is to control typically both spark and fuel in place of your factory computer. These systems offer a full range of tuneability. The problem with the stock computer is that you really can't do much to tune it. It will work fine for an exhaust upgrade and maybe a street port, but if you what to make extensive engine modifications or just want to get the most out of what you already have, you will need an EMS. There is a section that discusses EMS products on this website. Some prefer carbs to EFI. That would be another route to look into, but you wouldl need to tune it also. |
make sure you have the tube to open the 5th and 6th ports.

it would go where the main cat is and it is the pressure tube. you can obtian the full exhaust from www.mazdatrix.com. the correct part number is the exhaust made by mazdatrix.
