Gas tank and storage
Should I fill up my gas tank and use sta-bil or should I keep it low and use stabil? Will a full tank benefit me by having less room for condensation to build up?

Fill the tank to the top, with sta-bil, run the engine for a few minutes so it circulates through the entire fuel system. I have a 2nd gen tank sitting in the shop that sat half full for some time. Bottom half of the tank looks new, top half is nasty.

Thanks, man.

What trochoid said only I pre-mix mine (more then I normally would) and use the highest quality ethonol blended fuel I can find (Sunoco gold in this area). My car is very rarely driven and gas can remain in my tank for up to 2 year at a time and I have had no ill effects in over 10 years. But note I add the pre-mix mainly as a lubracant for the butterflys in my carb (I have a FB 12A) and the ethanol blened fuel helps clean up any varnish that my form. |
fill the tank up let it run for 5 min shut it off thats all it takes :icon_tup:

Unless you plan to let it sit for more then 3 years a stabilizer is not needed.

Having spent a lot of time with two-stroke engines I can say from experience that two-stroke oil doesn't like to stay suspended for extended periods of time. Fill the tank up, add the stabilizer for peace of mind (I agree it's generally not needed), and save the two-stroke oil for when you get it out of storage.

There is a great writeup in the 1st gen section on storage that was posted the other day. Most comprehensive one I have seen.
For icydude, unleaded fuel starts breaking down within 6 months, by 3 years, everthing is varnished up and foul. By 2 years, most carbs require full disassembly and cleaning. |
Here's the link I was refering too.
