Hey guys dose anyone know what the fule pressure is for the 82 rx7 , fore mine is shot and it will cost me a 110.00 buckes to fix it. So I would like to know if i can put a after market pump on it . :confused:

yes ... you can put an aftermarket pump on it. try Facet/NAPA if you're going to keep the car stock.

Ok, now that your question is answered, I'm going to go ahead and jack it because It seems like a good idea to keep all the fuel pump questions under the same thread.

I've also got an '82 and I'm trying to test out the fuel pump. I pulled the 2 lines from the carb and ran them into a jar, then hit the key. I expected the pump to send something into the jar, but nothing ever happened. Is this a reasonable test to see if the fuel pump is working or is there something else I need to do in order to test if the pump is working?

It is a reasonable test to see if it is pushing fuel. But you won't be able to tell what type of pressure it is pushing or really anything about its condition. As for there being no fuel, take a voltage meter to the plug for the fuel pump and turn the key and see if it has power. If you did this and it has power but no fuel is coming out then something is wrong. I tested mine similar to the way you are testing yours and it shot fuel about 7-10 feet in distance :P.

Cool, Thanks! I'm pretty sure I can hear it running when I sit in the car and turn the key. There's a muffled noise like a blower fan or something from behind the seat somewhere and the only thing that makes sense is fuel pump. Absolutely nothing comes out though.

Well, that settles it. My first purchace will be a fuel pump.

Okay, pulled the line coming out of the pump and stuck it in a jug, turned the key on, and the line started flapping around while the pump made some horrible noise, but there was no actual fuel coming out. That settled it for me, so I went out and bought an aftermarket pump for my car. I'm looking to mount it under the hood somewhere. Does anyone have an insight into where to wire the pump? I assume there's a fuel pump relay somewhere, but I don't know where it is. Do most folks wire straight to the fuse block on a switched circuit or to a relay or just splice into the harness somewhere?

GAG....SLOW DOWN!!!! you are not approaching your problem resonanably as well why would you put your fuel pump under your hood?

CraigT and anyone else that is interested in this post read up:

1. I have many stock fuel pumps FA carb and fuel injected ones used working condition
2. The stock fuel pumps do not have regulators and use a fuel return line
3. The fuel pump does not work until the car is being turned on, its a safety feature..
4. To TEST the fuel flow.....without the motor running, test fuel flow 60 seconds should equal 2200CC

I tried both turning the key on and cranking the engine. Nothing I could do would make fuel come out of the fuel pump. I'm sure you know where the fuel pump is located and that it has a cover over it underneath the car. If you'd seen the underside of my car, you would understand my decision to put it under the hood. There is _NO_WAY_ I'm getting that cover off or back on. It just isn't happening. Everything under my car us just too rusted. I can either try to fabricate a new mounting location underneath the car or mount the pump under the hood. I would prefer to just mount it under the hood because that would also keep the pump itself and my crappy soldiering job protected. :)

There is no reason not to put the pump under the hood, it will be easier to install, it will be protected, it will be closer to either the fuel pump relay or fuse block (whichever it needs to be connected to). As an additional bonus, it won't involve laying under my car swearing at nuts that can't even be differentiated from the bolts they are fastened to while having flakes of rust the size of a nickel fall into my eye.

Do you really think I am being unreasonanable? If so, what specifically would you do in my situation?

I would remove everything and grab some rust remover chemical. I personally like Super-Penetrant....Grab a bunch of cans at the 99 cents store...

The Fuel pump works better closer to the fuel tank...fuel pump life wont last as long either.

:bigthumb: hey guys put my new fuel pump on today everything is going great now Iam back on the road again . Thanks for all the help and anwsers , one thing is forsure is that Iam glad there is this club for good anwsers and help . thanks again.
