Front Covers??? What works?
I have tried to put a 12A cover on a 13B 6-Port. It did not fit. I have seen several posts where person "A" tells person "B" to put a 12a cover on their 13b to install it in a Gen 1. I have also seen some 85 GSL-SE covers for sale. I would like to replace MY 12A with a 13b, using the front mount. :wallbash:
DOES ANYONE KNOW THE REAL SCOOP (actually done it) ON SWAPPING COVERS? |
I know -SE covers fit. Have done a couple. I always thought the 12A and -SE covers were the same.
What didn't fit for you? |
I am a sandrail guy, so when you say an SE I assume you mean GSL-SE. I tried to put an 83 12A cover on both a turbo II and an 86 N/A 13b. The oil pans were around a 1/2 longer than the 12a Pans and the oil pump hit the case before the cover would sit on the front of the case.

Ok. You'll need an -SE front cover then. And that is GSL-SE. 84-85 13B. I assume you're wanting to be able to mount the engine off the front cover? The oil pans might also have a slightly different bolt pattern. -SE 13B relative to the later 13Bs. I've never layed one next to the other and checked.

You need the SE cover, if you want to run the 4 line mop, (which you should). You also need the SE oil pan and front engine mount. This works fine for mounting an S4 engine in a 1st gen. If you are mounting an S5 engine, you need to either: mod the front cover to accept the electronic mop, tie the mop off to side, plugged in and run pre-mix, or go with a standalone ecu and still pre-mix.
