Flooded..Unflooded...Now Low Idle?
 

I have an 86 GXL that was running great until I flooded it. I got it unflooded and now it is idling low and rough. What did I do?

Maybe the gas fouled the compression a little bit. Try putting some ATF in the rotor chambers and cranking the engine with no gas or spark. Then drive the car around and see if it lubed things up a tad. You could also throw a 1/2 bottle of 2 cycle in a full tank and see if that helps.

yeah, drive it for a while until the compression comes back to 100%

2-cycle? So any good 2-cycle oil would work? So would the idea behind this be do get the fuel a little thicker to help lube the rotors? I am still learning rotary and want to make sure I got it.

The rotary burns a little oil because it gets squirt into the chambers to lube the seals. When too much gas gets in there it rinses out the oil a little so things don't move like they should. By putting some 2-cycle into the gas it will lube things up a little more. Just get some 2-cycle that is TC-W3 certified. You can search the forums for more info on pre-mix.

don't use atf to solve lost compression due to oil being washed away. you'll just get fouled plugs, clogged cats and a mountain of smoke. take out the plugs and clean them, then squirt a little 2-stroke in the holes. i tend to run 4oz of mmo per tank as an added insurance for the apex seals. more then likely if you can start it, then the oil will reseal everything after a short drive.
