flooded engine

Ever hear of "Google"? It's a thing called a "search engine" that will let you "search" for things.

I suggest "RX-7 Unflooding Instructions." Or search this forum. Seriously.

What year RX-7 is it? 86-88, Pull the green injector fuse out of th fuse box located under the hood. Crank the engine for 10 seconds. (car won't start.) Put the fuse back in and then start it. It should start.

If you have a have a 89-92, you don't need to pull the fuse, just hold the gas pedal to the floor while cranking the engine. (this cancels the injector signal). Crank the engine for 10 seconds, then release the pedal and start the car like normal.

If you have a 93+ I don't know what you should do.

There is a search feature on here too. Search for "unflood" or "flooded" to find more info on this topic.

in essence, disconnect your fuel source temporarily and crank it, then reconnect to fire. i've found that removing the plugs after disabling the fuel, then drying them before reinstallation works - just my opinion.

also here's an UNFLOODING LINK

Thanks it started right up after like 3-4 try's with removing the egi fuse. But after it started up it began smoking really bad out the exhust (but i am thinking thats normal but not shure). Also its smoking in the engine bay to the left of the intercooler i am not shure where its coming from is that normal or not? I think i may of hooked up the bac thing on the side of the eingine mainafold wrong what wire goes where on the connector that looks like the one for the injectors but its not dose anyone know what i am talking about thanks.

What does the smoke look like/smell like? And where is it coming from in the engine bay?

Does it keep smoking, or did it just smoke for a bit and then stop?

Hi

Im not shure where its coming from its like a blue'ish gray'ish smoke and it just keeps soming as long as the car is running. I can send you a video clip if it would help.

Blue-grey is oil. I'm out of my realm here on troubleshooting a turbo, but the goal now is to figure out if it's coming from the engine or the turbo.

Hi

I let it cool down and started it back up and it dosnt seem to do it anymore thats weird  . Anyway i have bin having overheating problams with it like that before. if the temp gets to high it will steam like that and smells like its burning. Is there anyway to keep it from geting hot like that? what would you reconend (bigger fan) or something? thanks

Syonyk 07-13-04 03:00 PM

Um. You have some severe problems with that engine... They shouldn't overheat, and if they do, it's usually caused by a failed coolant seal (or if it wasn't bad before, it will be after a good solid overheat).

It's about time to look into pulling the engine apart & rebuilding it, IMO.
