True, Not exactly sure, i was told that the Car needs a New engine....So i was thinking why not just rebuild...butt...they keep saying it just needs a New engine....Yea sorry for the lack of details..IM still waiting for my car to arrive.. =D

Ask, the shop im assuming, why specifically you need a new engine. See if your compression is around 90-110 psi on all 3 points of each rotor. Was it overheating? Only take your car to known rotary shops. People like banzai racing and others do rebuilds for around 1300-1500$ as a base price. If you need rotor housings, lapped plates, or any internals replacement cost will go up significantly. Right now im spending around 4500$ because I needed new rotor housings and a new rotor.

Rebuilding rotaries is one of the only ways to go really. You can get remans from mazda for ridiculous prices. If you wanted a motor built with all brand new internals your looking at like 7-8 grand.

wow.. expensive...a basic rebuild just consists of new Apex Seals? what does a Legit Rebuild Consist of. id i do decide to rebuild the engine..?

a basic rebuild consists of all internal o rings and seal replacement. If all of your hard parts are good the builder will reuse them and the cost stays down. If your apex seals are not broken or worn they wont be replaced unless you want a different seal. Check out this link. http://rotaryaviation.com/overhaul_kits.htm

As per Ray Crowe at Malloy Mazda, FD remans are not available, and have not been available for over a year. He sells new (new) oem shortblocks for right around $4000. I know, I bought one :) |
I just picked up a FD with a Mazda reman. I was told there was roughly 43K on the rebuild. I have a TT setup non-sequential. I was told roughly 60K was a good number to start looking for a rebuild to keep the costs and such down. True statement?

Sorry never bought a reman before, was just reminiscing of a post with someone saying look what I found at mazda! It was over a year ago.

I would say as long as you dont overheat, and keep an eye on your compression, there should be no need to spend money on a rebuild. Waiting for a broken apex seal though can be expensive.

if your compression is good and you're not smoking like a mofo, no need for a new motor/rebuild. I bought my current FD with a reman and has 15k on it, I wanna do a compression test while I've got it half apart for a new fuel system, but I gotta get a comp tester first.

110+ psi good below 90psi is getting bad

depending what is wrong with the motor and what needs to be replaced a rebuild motor could be 2-3grand plus the shops labor is extra.

I did some Shopping around... i was told by many people that Lucky 7 Racing Does a very Good job. they are also about 20 Miles from mee soo its Very convenient.. =P
