FD Oil system mods. Oil jets and pressure regulators
I am looking at different mods while my engine is apart. I'm interested in the mod that replaces the check ball and spring in the eccentric shaft oil jets with the weber jets. For those that aren't familiar with the modification, the point of it is to increase the volume of oil that is used to cool the rotors at higher RPMs. The downside of the mod is that oil pressure at idle and lower RPMs are dropped.
So what if I used a higher pressure rear oil pressure regulator and shim the front? Would this alleviate any oil pressure issues caused by the oil jet mod? The oil pressure regulator I am looking at specifically is one of these: http://www.mazdatrix.com/boil3.htm 105-115 psi. Now they say they are for 74-92 engines, but I don't see why they can't be used REW motors. I am also considering the OPR mod from this link: http://www.rebuildingrotaryengines.c..._Oil_Regulator instead of using that regulator. The one they tested for that mod, maintained a pressure of 68psi (stock FD OPR), and after the modification 88psi. Thoughts, experience? |
Ok, after more reading, my understanding of this mod has changed.
By placing the weber air corrector jets in the E shaft jets, aren't you causing a restriction which lets less oil get to the rotors? |
the jets are smaller than the orfaces in the stock metering setup, however without the ball and springs there you more more oil overall

The REW OEM regulator is set at 110 psi. There is no advantage to the "jet mod" unless the motor is consistently run at high rpm.
