FD car stays on for 2 seconds!
 

Hey guys, I'm new to the forum so thanks for any replies!

I had my car garaged for a few years so I could go to school and after finally getting my plugs changed and engine checked, I tried starting and... I can only get it to idle and rev very briefly before the engine dies, it's a smooth idle but for 2 seconds! Only damage I know is that air bag sensor wires are chewed through from mice.

I have no idea what to do, thanks in advance for help.

Change out your gas, it probably is bad from sitting sooo long. Maybe water in the system etc.

Check your map sensor. If the vac hose disconnects the car won't continue running. Symptoms sound similar to the first time I encountered the map sensor hose being disconnected.

In case you are unaware: the MAP sensor is labeled "Boost Sensor" and it's mounted to the firewall on the driver's side of the engine bay. The vac hose should be connected to the bottom of the sensor

Thanks for the tips, I already checked the map sensor and checked if the tube was clogged and everything seems to be hooked up right, could the map sensor itself be bad? Do they go bad with sitting in the garage?

I haven't changed my fuel filter after I siphoned old gas out and put new gas in, could that cause pressure change stalling it out? This one scares me because of the filter location... this might be one of the most difficult things I'll ever do.

the fd i just picked up was sitting for anywhere from 2-4 years.

the fuel tank managed to get nasty inside and clogged up the brand new fuel pump's fuel filter sock I put in the tank.

so before tackling the fuel filter job (what a bitch of a job that is) pull the fuel pump out and check the fuel filter sock, make sure it doesnt look to have rust in it or anything, clean it and dry it off and put it back in and give it a shot.

My car has sat in the garage for 2 years without MAP sensor issues. I don't suspect that being the problem.
