Fan Problem!?!?

ok i just finished paying 700+ dollars to have vaccum lines replaced some electrical work done and a new water pump. i get the car back and it is worse than when i gave it to them.. iwould push it to about 5k rpm's and I could feel the shifter vibrate alot and there was a repeated bubbling/tapping sound.. at first i thought it was my exhaust because i have a exhaust leak and i thought it got worse and was backfiring rapidly. but the next morning i started it and i heard taping coming from under the hood at idle. i pop the hood and notice that the tapping is coming from my fan (it is hitting the housing) i turn the car off look at the fan and the blade that is hitting the housing is barely holding on the bottim is broken and falling off. so i cut the blade off thinking it is over. the next day car is running very roughi look at the fan now 3 blades are missing?!?! has this happened to anyone, why is it doing it ? is that bubbling sound at 5k rpms coming from the fan hitting the housing repeatedly? if i buy a new fan will the same thing happen due to a larger problem? help please..

oh and i have a 87 tII

Am I reading this right? You CUT A BLADE OFF OF YOUR FAN!?!

If so that is a problem. It'll unbalance the fan all to hell, cause it to wobble and hit stuff. At minimum you've screwed your fan. Its entirely possible your fan shroud and radiator are boned too. Fix the loud banging fan noise first, replace the fan. Then come back and tell us whats happening.

If I misread your post and you cut something else off, well thats still bad, ya shouldn't just go whacking parts off (hehe whacking off) everytime they make a funny noise.

buy a use fan or a electric one. Check your rad to see if you have any leaks. Then let it idle and try to find leaks with soapy water. Or just find and read the thread in the achive called "FAQ bad idle " or somthing like that. It should be near the top. good luck
