exhust leak how do i fix it

I have a 87 t2 and I think i have an exhust leak a (big one lol). How can i find it and or fix it? thanks

Put car up in air, run car and feel for em..unless you have a smoke machine. those are nice. Fixing depends where its leaking and if condition of area where leak is. Exhaust shops can fix small leaks.

You can often just look at the exhaust system and see a hole or a spot where black soot is accumulating. And I bet most muffler shops would be willing to do it for free if they might get some work out of it. If you are thinking about getting some aftermarket performance parts as a replacement, however, make sure they know that you haven't given the go-ahead to fix whatever they find -- that you just want to know what it is first so you can consider some options (have muffler shop fix existing part, get new replacement from muffler shop, buy a performance replacement part).

this is key! you have to locate the leak(s) first ...

it may be a simple gasket replacement or something more complex like a broken joint.

I had several small exhaust leaks in my FC.
I just took it down to an exhaust specialist and he welded them up for $50

I think I have one too, but I can only tell when my windows are down, releasing all the cabin preasure... its comeing up from my shifter, I think its a bad gasket... I can't see any holes.

I had the same problem with my 86 RX7. The connection between the resonator and the pre-cat was busted up. Got the car in the air and there was almost an inch of movement in the pipes. If you don't have to worry about emmisons just get a good downpipe and bolt it in, I picked up a Bonz 2.5 pipe and the car rocks and sounds awesome. I even was able to keep the stock Y pipe and mufflers.
