If by getting whacky at 5k, you mean it's hesitating ("bumping"), then I'd replace your fuel pump and filter ASAP.
As for the timing, turn the E-shaft until the TOP mark (YELLOW) is aligned with the timing marker. Then turn the CAS gear (with CAS removed) until the two dots allign. re-insert CAS. Typically, the CAS should be 1/4" - 3/8" clockwise FROM the bolt. This means, that if you're standing on the driver's side, you will have 1/4" - 3/8" on the LEFT side of the CAS guide. If that doesn't fix it, then go through the entire fuel system check. You've most likely got a bad/weak pump (or may need it wired with a direct battery link via a relay) or a clogged filter. When in doubt, get an ohm-meter and check all the sensors (including the coil packs) and make certain your VDI and 6pi is working (put grease or paint on the shaft of the actuators; I forget weather they push or pull at the moment). If it's still having troubles up high, do a thorough re-grounding of the ECU. https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...=ecu+grounding Hope this helps, Matt |
thanks for the help
