Engine Pulse in FC?

This is a strange problem I haven't been able to diagnose well. I've had my 1990 N/A FC for about a year and this started to happen about christmas last year. I've been doing a bit of research, but I can't find what could be causing this.

Basically, everyonce in a while (it's not consistent when it happens at all) I'll be driving along (doesn't matter what speed or gear) and suddenly I'll see the tachometer plummet and if I kep my foot on the gas the engine will just pulse. The tach will show the engine revving up to about 2k rpm then back down, then back up, and so on. If I let off the gas, it'll just idle like normal. If I turn the car off and then back on the car will run like normal for about a minute and then bam, the power loss hits and the pulse begins. If I leave the car alone for an hour or two, it will be fine again.

it's so strange, it doesn't consistenetly happen. It will happen a few days in a row, or not for weeks. I can't trace it to any particular maneuver I pull while driving. It happens while driving normally. I think it may be a fuel delivery problem? I''m really stumped, though.
